And that's why they play the games!
The legendary coach John Wooden once said "Ability may get you to the top, but it takes character to keep you there". No where was this more evident than at the Rio olympic games this summer. More than ever before, the world witnessed athletes from the US and other countries win their 2nd or 3rd or even 4th gold medal! The US men's and women's basketball teams were a great example. Comprised of a mixture of solid veteran players and some new faces, both teams were heavily favored to repeat as gold medalists. Although the rest of the world's teams could have simply rolled over and allowed the US teams to march straight to the podium, it was very apparent that the rest of the world's teams chose instead to give it their all, inspired to play their best in an effort to compete with the NBA and WNBA players who made up the Team USA rosters. In the end, many of the games were very close and exciting to watch. Yet, the US teams who triumphed seemed to have that something extra. Some might call it luck. Some might call it wisdom. Coach Wooden would have called it character. Congratulations to all the Team USA athletes and thank you for allowing us to celebrate your achievements. You have inspired a whole new generation of players and fans for years to come!
